Give away or seek free stuff in your neighbourhood through the following sites:
The Buy Nothing Project started off as a movement comprising of local Facebook groups.
An independent platform and app has since been developed and an effort has been made to encourage communities to move away from Facebook to the new site.
A list of all current groups is being maintained here.
Freecycle started off many years ago using Yahoo discussion groups but has since moved to freecycle.org as the primary central platform.
Trash Nothing is an app that can be used to access Freecycle listings around the world.
This popular online classifieds site has a free stuff section.
An old classifieds site which has been eclipsed by Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace in much of Canada.
It may still be worth checking the “free stuff” section for your city from time to time to see if there are any current listings.
Note that some municipalities hold annual designated “curbside” days where residents are encouraged to give away unwanted items by placing these in front of their homes.
